Therapies
Nithyam Siddha Clinic offers external therapies, predominantly Varmam-based therapy, which will up to our physician's discretion on a case-by-case basis, with patients' complete consent and none will be pressured into treatment.
Our external therapies is solely for the purpose of supporting patients' health & wellbeing, and will be carried out by our trained physician. We do not hire therapists to carry out these therapies as they require an in-depth medical education and training in modern anatomy, physiology, and adequate knowledge of Varmam's basics and advanced techniques.

Dharai therapy (தாரை சிகிச்சை)
Dharai therapy (தாரை சிகிச்சை) involves dripping of warm oil throughout one’s forehead, specifically on a Varmam point known as Baalachandra adangal (பாலச்சந்திர அடங்கல்), in a steady stream, or a consistent pace set by the physician.
“Dharai”, meaning “regularity/streak/line”, gives us a visual representation of the oil flow during the therapy.
Indications for Dharai therapy are conditions like insomnia, headache, stress, mental fatigue, anxiety and mild depression.

LOGOTHERAPY
In honour of Dr. Victor Frankl, and through the lens of Siddha Medicine, Logotherapy, means “healing through meaning,”.
It is a conversation-based therapy that assesses a patient’s cognition and behaviour and provides practical guidance to better cope with distress, anxiety, and other emotional discomforts that affect a patient’s physical well-being or exacerbate the state of pre-existing medical conditions.
We use the concepts and fundamentals of Siddha Medicine to explain the interrelation between the mind and body.

PURAVALAYAM (புறவளையம்) -Spine
This oil pooling therapy is done for patients who struggle with conditions like lumbar spondylosis, cervical spondylosis, sciatica, stiffness of the muscles of the back, etc.
This is typically done for 7 consecutive days and your physician will follow up with you to track the prognosis thereafter.
A thorough medical history taking will be done prior to initiating treatment and prognosis will be tracked.

OTTRADAM (ஒற்றடம்)
Ottradam is a fomentation therapy using a cotton wear pouch (kizhi). This is done as an effective pain management therapy for muscle stiffness, for spasticity of muscles in stroke patients, as well as in children with spastic cerebral palsy, and many others.
This procedure can be done alone, or in conjunction with other therapies, according to the patient's needs.

VARMA THOKKANAM (வர்ம தொக்கணம்)
In Thokkanam, the physician performs fine techniques that stimulate the appropriate varmam points, across various muscles and tissues to aid in the recovery of many conditions such as for sroke patients, frozen shoulder, & other such major musculoskeletal disorders.
Varmam pothu thadaval of the head & neck also comes under thokkanam, which can be used to treat patients with anxiety disorder, insomnia, thyroid disorders, for children with autism & ADHD and many more.

THODU VARMAM (தொடுவர்மம்)
There are approximately 108 Varmam points in the body which serve as important checkpoints for the 10 Naadis and 10 Vaayus to carry out their function appropriately. These Varmam points are important anatomical landmarks as well.
Appropriate stimulation of these Varmam points by a trained Siddha physician will be used to treat patients for a variety of diseases. This is typically done in conjunction with other treatments.

PATTRU (பற்று)
Pattru is also known as application of medicated poultice.
This is to reduce effusion of the knee joints or to soothe swelling in other parts of the body based on the condition
This procedure is typically done in conjunction with other treatments based on the patient's condition.

KATTU (கட்டு)
Kattu is typically done for ligament tears of the knee and ankle joints. Immobilisation with bandage is preceded by Varmam thokkanam techniques which aim to strengthen and give appropriate mobilisation to the ligaments, as well as nourish the joint spaces with medicated oil.

PURAVALAYAM (புறவளையம்) -Knee joints
Oil pooling of the knee joints is typically done for Osteoarthritis, but could be also recommended as a post-treatment recovery therapy that aids to strengthen the joints, tendons and muscles of the knee joints.
This procedure also strengthens the knee joints post cruciate ligament tears and medial/lateral ligament injuries. Coupled with sufficient physical therapy, the road to recovery will be much smoother for patients.

PODI THIMIRTHAL (பொடி திமிர்தல்)
Podi thimirthal is a dry powder rubbing technique that is indicated for specific conditions such as, spastic paralysis in stroke patients or children with Cerebral Palsy. It may be also used for patients with obesity.
